Leaving a Legacy for Journalism

Barbara Johnson believes that local news serves a valuable role in binding us all together as a community in our shared values. That’s why she has created a legacy giving plan through Madison Community Foundation to support nonprofit journalism through the work of Wisconsin Watch.
Since 2013, two-thirds of Wisconsin’s journalists have seen their jobs disappear, and the state lost 19 newspapers in 2023 and 2024 alone. Wisconsin Watch is working to help communities will the void left in their wake by providing local reporting to helping people stay connected and informed, which in turn, strengthens the community.
