Legacy giving is accessible to donors at every level. Through MCF, you can:

- Contribute to MCF’s Community Impact, Field of Interest or Priority Funds
- Receive lifetime income while supporting the organization of your choice when you establish a charitable gift annuity

Leaving a Legacy Through MCF Is Easy and Flexible
Planned giving — making a gift through your will or estate plan — can offer significant tax advantages for you and your heirs as well as creating a lasting legacy of support. Leaving a legacy by making a planned gift through MCF can be as simple as naming MCF as a beneficiary in your will. Or MCF can work with you and your advisors to structure a plan that fits within your overall financial and estate planning goals.
Although the legacy you leave is permanent, during your lifetime your interests may change. Include Madison Community Foundation in your will or estate plan once, and you can update your Statement of Intent at any time. It’s as easy as filling out the form and sending us an email.
Ways to Make a Legacy Gift
You can create a legacy through MCF in many ways, allowing you to create a giving plan that meets your goals and fits with your overall financial and estate plans.
- Retirement Plan Assets. Name Madison Community Foundation as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), 403(b) or other tax-deferred retirement plan. These assets are often taxed if left to heirs but transfer tax-free to nonprofits like MCF, making it a great legacy giving option if you can provide for your loved ones by other means.
- Bequest by Will. Name Madison Community Foundation as a beneficiary in your will and retain access to your assets during your lifetime. You can make a bequest of a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or the remainder of your estate after other bequests are satisfied. Use this sample language when including MCF in your will or estate plan.
- Life Insurance. If your policy premiums are fully paid, simply name Madison Community Foundation as your beneficiary. If premium payments are still needed, assign your policy to MCF and continue to make annual, tax-deductible contributions to cover the premium.
- Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA). A charitable gift annuity allows you to make a tax-deductible gift today and receive a guaranteed income for life while leaving a permanent source of support for a nonprofit of your choice as part of your legacy. You can find out more about establishing a charitable gift annuity by downloading our helpful CGA fact sheet.
